2016 Spring Editorial Feature: Edible Details

02 04 2016

A wedding cake has become a cultural and traditional centerpiece of almost all modern day weddings, as a result of decades of traditions passed down from various cultures and sources. One of the most talented pastry artists in the wedding industry resides here in UT, she is fast becoming discovered and is in high demand. Cassidy with Flour & Flourish took time out of her busy schedule to oblige us with her talent for our editorial shoot, her pastry flowers are prestigious and amazing. This cake & it’s sugary blooms did not disappoint!

Here is what Cassidy had to say about this design:  For this cake I saw the pattern on the napkin and knew I had to make some wild roses to match it.  I just love how springy and fresh it looked.  I wanted the cake to feel that same way.  I kept the cake clean and white so the sugar flowers would pop.  I love the wildness of the roses so I kept the leaves wild looking too.  I think this cake works well for the Hardware building because the cake is simple so it doesn’t compete for attention.  But it also doesn’t fade into the background either.  I love the clean look of the Hardware building with the pop of the brick wall and that’s what I think the cake does, it pops.

The presentation of the table before the food is served is so critical to the style of the event, we could easily name Fuse experts in this field, they really know how to set it right! So detail specific to the event, the venue, the couple, the colors, the theme, the everything!

Mary with Culinary Crafts always says it best when it comes to food: Nothing says spring like fresh local strawberries and asparagus. This salad was inspired with seasonal spring ingredients and updated with a trendy presentation.  To give the white bistro plates a pop, the pretty pink beet dijon vinaigrette is pooled on a large dinner plate.  Then shaved asparagus and fennel build the salad with garnishes of sliced strawberries, candied walnuts, and micro greens.  A simple crusty mini baguette is elevated to “wedding dinner” status by wrapping it in white parchment paper, black and white twine, and emphasizing spring with a single rose bud.  The butler-passed hors d’oeuvre adds another pop of spring color with by using a watermelon radish instead of the typical bruschetta.  A simple addition of local goat cheese and honey with chive is all that is needed to finish the refreshing crisp appetizer. Herbal cocktails are all the rage and are the perfect showcase to the freshness of spring.  Fresh rosemary and mint garnish a lime gin concoction that looks and tastes like spring!
