Flower Tip Friday {Peonies}

05 29 2009

Possibly the most sought after early summer wedding flower… the peony speaks elegance in volumes. Its lush large bloom on skinny stem is delightfully fragrant and expensive but well worth its penny. It is grown in single and double blooms and gets it meaning from Victorian ancestry meaning “bashfulness.”

Colors range from white to cream to yellow, and from the palest of pinks to reds to the deepest maroons. Some varieties have deep accent colors in the brown and maroon range at the base of the petals. The fragrance of peonies is reminiscent of an intense rose scent.

Often brides can confuse peonies with the garden rose as they both have large blooms and can been seen together in floral arrangements. I used to come across floral designs that incorporated the use of peonies and never knew the actual name of this extraordinary flowers, but fell deeply in love with the romantic, lush, and vintage feel of the blooms, creating  an unforgetable and inviting atmosphere.
